  11. Moving on now to blood-stained battlefields, the latest craze in on-line
  12. entertainment on some private bulletin-board systems these days seems to
  13. be a new Door game called Global War, by Joel Bergen of the ProVision
  14. BBS.  (Door is a menu-extension system that lets system operators add
  15. games to a bulletin board as individual modules without modifying the
  16. BBS software).

  18. Global War is based on the hit board game Risk.  In this adaptation, you
  19. compete against other players for world domination.
  20.  
  21. The globe is divided into six continents, with a total of 42 countries;
  22. the first player to conquer all 42 nations wins the game. Global War is
  23. designed for three to six players and also supports team play.
  24.  
  25. Each player is allowed one turn per day.  The game determines the number
  26. of armies you'll receive for that turn based on the number of days since
  27. your last turn, the number of countries and continents you currently
  28. possess, and any bonuses you may have earned.

  30. After you receive your armies, you can deploy them in whatever way you
  31. see fit in the countries you currently occupy.  After that, you can
  32. attack your foes in adjacent countries.  The outcome of the battle is
  33. determined by a simulated roll of the dice.

  35. Bergen has done an excellent job of adapting this board game to the BBS
  36. environment.  World maps and menus are displayed in beautiful full-color
  37. ANSI graphics.

  39. Bergen has also released an add-on product called GWTERM, which works in
  40. conjunction with your terminal program.  With GW-TERM, Global War
  41. displays board maps instantly on screen without waiting for information
  42. to be transmitted over the phone lines.  One-key menu selections and
  43. displays make the Global War interface very easy to use.  In addition, a
  44. messaging system lets you leave one-line notes for other players without
  45. cluttering up the host BBS.

  47. Global War supports most popular BBS environments with a Door feature.
  48. If your local sysop isn't running Global War yet, encourage him or her
  49. to get it.  It's by far one of the best Door games around.  For more
